Hello what do you mean about “i am not…a huge fan of this new line of fandom stuff that feels the need to downplay loki’s intelligence in order to talk about how thor’s really the smart one”?

I don’t feel like going to dig up posts that are only going to annoy me, but…you see, fandom does this thing where when there’s a characterization that bothers them (in this case, Thor being a dumb jock), there’s a need to swing alllll the way over to the other end. And then there’s an adjacent thing specifically in Thor fandom where, apparently, whenever you’re trying to say something good about Loki you have to tear Thor down, and vice versa.

And what I’m seeing now is this thing that’s like. “Loki’s an airhead slut bitch and Thor’s a genius” and like. I get that the former can be affectionate but it starts to grate pretty fast. (I mean, I’m never very good at that kind of affectionate, except in very specific cases.)

It’s this way of…rather than talking with any nuance about different kinds of intelligence or the idea that Thor doesn’t need to be an ~intellectual~ to be smart or that people who paint him as dumb are working off a painfully limited understanding of his character, they have to toss Loki off his “smart” perch to put Thor there, because There Can Only Be One, or something.

And it bugs the hell out of me.

Bingo. They can both be smart. This is not a difficult concept. Thor was never portrayed as stupid in any of the movies–he was explaining the multiverse to a astrophysicist in Thor I, after all. But Loki is a master sorcerer who figured out how to travel between worlds without being detected–he’s far from stupid. (fans, on the other hand, can be pretty idiotic, honestly).
