If you’re a young person in Ohio, DON’T tell your therapist you are trans. You may think “oh but my therapist would never tell my parents!” No, you don’t understand, there’s a hellova lot of people who dont give two shits about the morality of their actions, all they care about is being law abiding citizens. If they’ve made it a felony to not tell parents about trans clients, then people are gonna tell parents about trans clients. Confidentiality of you identity doesn’t exist any more. Don’t. Tell. Your. Therapist.

It’s awesome that op is raising awareness about this, but the information is slightly incorrect – probably due to the ambiguous wording of pretty much everyone reporting on House Bill 658 (”Parents Rights Act”).

HB658 is not yet law. So trans youth are relatively safe when it comes to confidentiality…for now. If signed into law, this bill would allow therapists, teachers, etc. to legally break confidentially on topics of transitioning and dysphoria if the minor “has exhibited symptoms of gender dysphoria or otherwise demonstrates a desire to be treated in a manner opposite of the child’s biological sex, to immediately notify the child’s parents, guardian, or custodian” (click link for more details).

Fighting this bill is important, not only for Ohio transgender youth, but for the rest of America. The passing of this bill into law would set a precedent for other states to follow suit.

Here’s how to fight HB658

  • call or write to Ohio House Speaker Ryan Smith
  • (614) 466-1366 (the # given by ohiohouse.gov) or (614) 412-4237 (the # given by Equality Ohio
    • “Introduce yourself, say where you live, and that this bill is damaging to transgender kids. Then ask that it not be moved forward.” Wouldn’t hurt to mention that you’re an eligible/future voter either.
    • seriously, a call only takes a few minutes…you could do it during a commercial break
  • educate yourself on the bill and donate to Equality Ohio

Calling or writing would be the most immediate effective action, but even donating $5 if you don’t have the time would be a big help.

Protect transgender youth by opposing House Bill 658 and supporting LGBT+ rights advocates!

And like OP, please spread the word on social media! Show them that we will not tolerate this abuse.

A middle school in Achille, Oklahoma is closed following violent threats by parents on social media against Maddie, a 12-year-old transgender student who identifies as female and used the girls’ bathroom.

Maddie had been using the staff bathroom at her old school but used the girls’ bathroom at the new school because she wasn’t sure where the staff bathroom was. She was then accused of peeping under a bathroom stall. Her mother said it was probably because she “leans very far forward to use the bathroom.”

Then the threats began on a private parents’ Facebook group for the school. The parents called Maddie “it” and “thing”, suggested that her genitalia be mutilated to make her female (“a good sharp knife will do the job real quick”). One said it was “hunting season on them kind” and said there was “no bag limit.”

Maddie’s mother Brandy Rose said she fears for her life: “These are adults making threats– I don’t understand it. She’s an awesome kid. To see any fear in her, I can’t explain how bad that hurts me for them to hurt her.”

KXII reports: “The sheriff said the mother filed a protective order against one parent but no other arrests have been made, however several agencies including the FBI are stepping in to see if any comments constitute a hate crime.”

See the screenshots:

Sorry to say this but if we have to think about whether or not threatening to cut a 12 year old child is a hate crime means there is no hope for us. What has this nation become when it’s citizens feel they have a right to threaten minorities with no fear of repercussion. The only ringing heard now is the death knell of freedom..

Savages…

these are adults. this is disgusting. she’s 12. what. the. fuck.

So this is a problem. For those that don’t know, this November MA is putting a question up on whether the transgender nondiscrimination law that was passed in 2016 should be repealed.

If this law gets repealed, transgender residents will face discrimination in public places and will have to by law use the restroom based on their assigned sex at birth, not what they identify as.

For those in other states who might be thinking “Oh, this won’t affect me at all!

It will.

If this law gets repealed, the opponents (the people who approve of the repeal) will try to eliminate transgender protection laws across the United States.

Keep in mind, this article was at the back of the Pride magazine I picked up at a movie theater. Not many people I’ve talked to seem to know that this is going to happen.

I don’t care if this doesn’t fit your blog.

Spread this like wildfire.

Additionally: if you are registered to vote in Massachusetts, the wording on the ballot is confusing, if you want the transgender protections law to stay, vote Yes.

Here’s a link to the Massachusetts Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Veto Referendum (2018).

WW2 Veteran Comes out as Transgender aged 90

A WW2 veteran has come out as transgender at the age of 90 and is happy to finally be receiving female hormone treatment.

Patricia Davies says she knew since the age of three that she was a woman but lived in fear of how people would react for decades until doctors changed her medical records to “female” last year.

Even though she had opened up to her late wife about her feelings in 1987, who bought her jewelry and dresses to wear in secret, she remained living as Peter after receiving abuse from people in the street and fearing “electric shock treatment”.

The retired industrial photographer, who served in the army between April 1945-1948, has a distant aunt who once lived to 104 years old so hopes she has “similar genes” to keep her going so she can now enjoy life as a woman.

Patricia, from a village in Leicestershire, said: “It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I was living a lie.”

“I have been keeping quiet. I have slowly started to tell some of my neighbors. Everybody said ‘don’t worry, as long as you’re happy.”

“I’ve known I was transgender since I was three-years-old.”

“I have always been attracted to women but not in a sexual way. I’m not gay. My attraction to women was that I wanted to be like them. I would have liked to be like the pin-ups.”

“I was never totally unhappy. I always made the most of things and looked on the bright side of things. I’ve always had a wicked sense of humor.”

“Because of the general hostility of people I kept quiet. It wasn’t until recently that I felt safe to come out and I felt an overwhelming desire that I wanted to break free. So I came out and I’ve not regretted it.”

Patricia served in the army from April 1945 until April 1948, leaving when she was 21 and getting married only a few months later.

During her time in the armed forces, she served in the Far East, India, East Africa and Palestine.

Patricia said: “You took your life in your hands in the army. I lost a couple of mates and had a close shave myself.”

“I had to keep my mouth shut about being transgender, you couldn’t flaunt that as that would have been a disaster.”

“Transgender wasn’t really known in those days. I would have been classed as homosexual, which would have caused problems in the army. I would have ended up in prison. But I got through it.”

“But it was alright overall and I feel quite proud having served during the war and having done military service, in particular during the trouble in Palestine.”

“Perhaps Hitler got news I had joined in April 1945 and gave up. That’s what I like to think.”

“I feel quite relieved, quite happy. [The best thing about coming out] is being accepted as a woman. That has been something I’ve wanted all of my life.”

“If people don’t like what they see then I don’t care but no one seems to be causing me any trouble. Nobody questions it though. Nobody seems to bat an eyelid, they accept me as I am.”

“I’ve been made most welcome in the societies. I think people will benefit from being educated on this a bit more.”
