Thor got buzzed by that disk thing how many times in this movie. At least four if not more. Yet I keep seeing posts about thor torturing loki by setting it off on him so he could get back to asgard? Like I don’t get it and I love Loki. Thor didn’t do anything wrong, cruel or mean. And he knew damn well that loki would get out of it. There is like a list a mile long of things loki has done to thor so I just don’t get the thor bashing. They had a great sibling interaction in this movie. And I think it was made clearer than ever that no matter how they might fight or annoy each other, they are brothers and they love each other as such.
Exactly! I don’t see the big deal. But I’m not one to talk, I nearly electrocuted my sister when I was a teenager, not on purpose but I rather enjoyed it.
Here are my problems with it (and note that I don’t hate Thor; I’m just troubled by this specific action):
1) Thor didn’t know how long it would take for someone to happen along, and it did seem to take a while. Thor got shocked several times, but only for a few seconds each time. Loki was being shocked continuously for at least 10 minutes.
2) Thor also didn’t know who would be the first to come along. Luckily it was Korg and he’s a humanitarian, so of course he’s going to turn the thing off. If it had been the Grandmaster, he probably would have turned it off to give Loki a chance to explain himself, and Loki could almost certainly handle him. But what if it had been Topaz? She might have killed Loki while he was still incapacitated. So Thor was taking a major gamble with Loki’s life, in a way that Loki wasn’t when he dropped Thor out of the Helicarrier in The Avengers – he knew Thor could use Mjolnir to get out.
I’m pretty sure he did it to be an asshole, but it’s interesting that the consequence was to motivate Valkyrie to fight to save Asgard. Classic trickster narrative – the outcome is often completely opposite in moral valence from the intention…
Oh yeah I 100% still think Loki took the tesseract. Just maybe that’s not how he escaped Surtur’s big firestorm.
Also I won’t be surprised if the reason Thanos’s ship found them is BECAUSE Loki took the tesseract and Thanos was tracking it.
We know that Loki escaped in the orgy ship because we see it perched on the big ship toward the end. I only noticed that on the second viewing because I was looking for it, though.
I’m also 100% sure Loki took the Tesseract for two reasons, one story-internal and one external. The internal reason is that Loki knew Asgard was going to blow up and that when it did the Tesseract was just going to go flying off into space somewhere, which would be an incredible waste of an Infinity Stone as far as he was concerned. The external reason is Chekhov’s gun, basically: why did they make a point of showing Loki’s attention being attracted by the Tesseract if they weren’t going to do anything with that?
I FUCKING KNOW RIGHT??? is she gonna try to go back to Asgard and have some creature working the pumps at an intergalactic gas station be like ‘Asgard? ha, gonna have a hard time getting back to a place that doesn’t exist anymore…’
“It’s not the words ‘I’m here’ that tell him; those are late to the party. It’s the faint clap of the bottle stopper hitting the palm of Loki’s hand, then the softer echo of his fingers closing around it.
“Thor doesn’t even know whether he’s surprised or not; he can hardly tell what he feels. But he is a god and a king and a man of his word, so he opens his arms.”
Jumping on the post-Ragnarok hug fic bandwagon with you, @incredifishface and @raven-brings-light… and I’ve kept it gen for now, too. Gotta get the feelings out of my system first.
How did the philosophy reference get in there, you may ask? I dunno, man. These things just happen.
Jesus Christ, this is my first fic to break 150 kudos and I posted it less than a day ago. This is what happens when you post something immediately relevant to a movie right after it comes out instead of jumping on a slow-moving fandom train halfway through the 4-year lull between movies…
OK, it is now my first fic to crack *200* kudos, and it’s still been less than 24 hours since I posted it. Of course I’m thrilled and flattered, but I’m also feeling a little sad on behalf of my other fics that have been up for a while, most of which are longer and involved more time and effort. So if you like this one, please consider checking out my other fics (Thor/Loki or gen, as you prefer). I’ve already been seeing some new readers doing that, which I greatly appreciate.
