I looked back on this short exchange between Frigga and Loki in The Dark World:
Loki: “I was merely giving truth to the lie that I’ve been fed my entire life, that I was born to be a king.“
Frigga: “A true king admits his faults. What of the lives you took on Earth?”
Loki: “A mere handful compared to the numbers Odin has taken himself.”And I can’t help but think that Loki might not have known about Hela, but he had to know Asgard’s history, at least better than Thor did. He can’t just mean the war against Jotunheim.
I always speculated that Loki knew about quite a few skeletons in Asgard’s closet (which is why it was featured so heavily in BAtW), but now in retrospect, what he said to Frigga is very telling.
Thor, Loki and the Warriors Three spent many years travelling around in the Nine Realms. Maybe Thor only saw battles and adventures, but Loki might’ve seen much more. He probably realised where all the gold came from.
Even if Asgard changed it’s own history, I doubt the defeated Realms did… maybe they were quiet about it, but the truth had to be there for those who were willing to look and listen.
