Springtime. The Paschal season. Aviv.
The season of rebirth, renewal, and too much bleeping rain.
The time of flowers blooming, bears waking, trees budding, eggs hatching, and Jews frantically cleaning their homes and screaming this crucial message into the void:
No, Christians, you should not have Passover seders.
“But why?” comes the eternal reply. “The Old Testament is part of our tradition too! Jesus celebrated Passover! Why can’t we?”

As some of you know, I’ve sung in my university chapel choir for a lot of years. And one thing that really annoys me is that the chapel uses challah for communion on Maundy Thursday. Like… it was supposed to be a Passover seder. Jesus & friends would have been eating matzah. And I know it would make a huge mess to break off little bits of matzah… but that’s why they make communion wafers.
If you’re going to steal our food traditions, do it right. And don’t rub it in our faces that you don’t have to eat unleavened bread during Passover because Jesus is the new covenant, blah blah blah, and the old rules no longer apply. Fine. You don’t want to follow our rules? Then don’t use our bread. And while you’re at it, how about giving back our book and our god.
