Prince of Darkness – Chapter 1: Paradise Lost – Philosopher_King – Thor (Movies) [Archive of Our Own]

philosopherking1887:

“After Odin fell into the Sleep, Loki kept going back to the Vault every few hours to stand before the plinth where the Casket of Ancient Winters lay. Like a guilty man returning to the scene of the crime. But what was the crime, he wondered, and whose? Loki’s driving his father past the brink of exhaustion by confronting him with the truth? Or Odin’s abandoning his son when he most needed his father’s guidance? Or was it earlier: the lie he had told Loki for his whole life only to reveal the truth in the wrong way, at the wrong moment, and then escape taking responsibility for the aftermath? …

“He saved my life, Loki reminded himself; I would have died if he hadn’t taken me. But was that even true? Could he believe Odin’s word about anything, now? Was he a rescued castoff or a hostage? … Loki was starved for knowledge, and he knew he would not get it from Odin. Nor could he expect truth from his mother, from Frigga: Odin might well have told her the same lies. No, there was only one person he could ask: Laufey himself. As a king to another king, Laufey owed him the courtesy of truth.”

Posting my giveaway fic for @shine-of-asgard on AO3 in two parts with a bit of a delay, for exposure reasons. (Do you have an AO3 account, so I can list it as a gift?) Prompt: “Loki/Lucifer and Odin/God. Variation of the ‘Lightbringer’ theme where Loki rebels against Odin and tries to steal the Casket of Winters to give it back to the Jotnar. It can follow the ‘biblical’ version with Odin striking Loki down and Loki falling from Asgard or you can spin it any other the way you want. Bonus points for the appearance of Thor as a conflicted good archangel who loves his brother but won’t go against God for him.”

Chapter 2, “Paradise Regained,” has also been posted.

“Thor was beginning to think he might be happy in Midgard. Not yet, of course; not while the news of his father’s death and his mother’s rejection was still so fresh, not while he could still feel the ache in his muscles from straining to lift Mjölnir, in vain. But someday. He would court Jane slowly, as befit a lady of her standing and education. Selvig, who seemed to stand in place of a father for her, had given his implicit permission.

“So it came as a complete surprise when Lady Darcy called from the front room of the Midgardians’ strange abode, ‘Thor? There’s someone here for you… she says she’s your mother?’

“Thor’s hesitant spark of hope was instantly smothered. What could she be here for, but to let him feel the full measure of her fury and disappointment?

“He emerged from the room where he had been reading one of Jane’s texts of Midgardian physics (a wondrously bizarre way of viewing the world) with his head bowed, bracing himself against the onslaught. But when he dared to raise his eyes, Frigga’s expression seemed wrong; it was worry, not anger, that creased her brow and tightened her lips.”

@shine-of-asgard‘s giveaway fic is now completely posted on AO3, Parts I and II as Chapter 1 (Paradise Lost), Parts III and IV as Chapter 2 (Paradise Regained). It’s probably easier to read there than as 4 parts on Tumblr…

The Ninth Deadly Sin – Philosopher_King – Thor (Movies) [Archive of Our Own]

philosopherking1887:

“It was virtually inevitable that Loki would end up both loving and hating Thor; it was in their natures.

“They worked in the Deadly Sins department of the Pre-Death Acquisitions division of Hell. It was a common misconception that there were seven of them—there was definitely something satisfying about the number seven, and ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ had a nice ring to it—but there were in fact eight. Someone should have told Pope Gregory that Pride was a very different sin from Vanity; it would have been obvious, Loki thought, if only he had met both Thor and Fandral. Vanity is the obsessive preoccupation with outward appearances and with the opinions of others; pride is an excessive inner confidence in one’s own abilities and worth. Loki found vanity (and Fandral) to be contemptible, servile, and therefore unattractive. Pride, on the other hand… there was an alluring swagger to it (and Thor). It may have been a moral vice, but Loki considered it an aesthetic virtue.

“Loki envied Thor his prideful swagger. Of course he did; he was, after all, the embodiment of Envy.”

I finally decided to post my Satanic-themed giveaway fic for @wouldyouknowmore on AO3 (I originally posted it on Tumblr here). It’s my very first AU fic! Not just canon-divergent AU, but actual completely different universe, a demon AU inspired by Good Omens and “The Good Place.”

Tagging some folks who may have missed it the first time: @ghostxforest@imaginetrilobites, @incredifishface, @kingloptr, @loxxxlay@nursejoh53, @writernotwaiting

Reblogs are greatly appreciated.

Prince of Darkness, Part III

philosopherking1887:

My 666-follower giveaway fic for @shine-of-asgard, which I originally intended to be between 1000 and 2000 words, is now more than 7000 words… and I still have one part left. This is even worse than the time my 2500-word giveaway fic for @darklittlestories came out at 5200. Length limits are seriously not my thing.

Part I, Part II

————————————

Thor was beginning to think he
might be happy in Midgard. Not yet, of course; not while the news of his
father’s death and his mother’s rejection was still so fresh, not while he
could still feel the ache in his muscles from straining to lift Mjölnir, in
vain. But someday. He would court Jane slowly, as befit a lady of her standing
and education. Selvig, who seemed to stand in place of a father for her (he
called himself her “advisor,” which seemed odd considering that she held no
political power) had given his implicit permission.

So it came as a complete surprise
when Lady Darcy called from the front room of the Midgardians’ strange abode,
“Thor? There’s someone here for you… she says she’s your mother?”

Thor’s hesitant spark of hope was
instantly smothered. What could she be here for, but to let him feel the full
measure of her fury and disappointment?

He emerged from the room where he
had been reading one of Jane’s texts of Midgardian physics (a wondrously
bizarre way of viewing the world) with his head bowed, bracing himself against
the onslaught. But when he dared to raise his eyes, Frigga’s expression seemed
wrong; it was worry, not anger, that creased her brow and tightened her lips.

First Things (Thor/Loki) – Chapter 5 – Philosopher_King | Archive of Our Own

philosopherking1887:

Fic Summary-ish: “‘I want you to fuck me,’ Loki panted beside Thor’s ear. … It was the third time that Loki had spoken those words. The first two times Thor had put him off, thinking that he was not ready, that he did not really know what he wanted. ‘First things first,’ Thor had told him, thinking to ease him into it with other, less weighty things… but he knew now that the desire Loki had expressed was no thoughtless, impulsive whim. ‘All right,’ Thor said.”

Chapter Summary: Thor and Loki have a sparring match to settle a wager (over which of them will have to wear a butt plug to a High Council meeting); bathing together afterward leads to a bit more than bathing.

So that came out about twice as long as previous chapters, which wasn’t really intentional. Oops. It’s all the talking as well as all the sexy times. With butt plugs. What am I even doing in this fic…?

Summary: Thor brings up a potentially sensitive subject with Loki in order to discuss something unexpected: the line of succession.

I wrote a little ficlet on Tumblr (many of you have seen it) and it was long enough that I gave it its own installment on AO3.

Tagging a few people who may not have seen it (or saw it and didn’t like it… the two are indistinguishable from my standpoint): @bubblebubble03@darklittlestories, @incredifishface, @lunariagold, @pinknoonicorn

For the Fandom Loves Puerto Rico auction in October, I won/bought via donation an illustration by @not-worms of Loki and Gamora sparring from my Loki-in-the-Void fic The Abyss Gazes Also (along with this moodboard for the same fic). I managed to make Loki and Gamora my own new brotp by writing about them meeting on Sanctuary when Loki is in Thanos’s custody and Gamora helping to train Loki back into fighting shape. Below the cut is an excerpt from Chapter 7, in which they meet and start training together.

philosopherking1887:

I had a weird idea for a Thorki ficlet and I wrote it. Instead of all the other things I’ve been trying to write. My brain has not been very cooperative lately… As should become apparent, this takes place in the canon universe, after Thor: Ragnarok (but before the mid-credits tag scene). The assumption is that Thor and Loki had an established relationship sometime pre-canon; as ever, this fits into my Thorki series (but does not depend on it for comprehensibility).

For mobile readers, there’s a “Keep Reading” link after the 10th paragraph.

Thor and Loki were sitting in the bed they shared in the captain’s stateroom (nothing suspicious to Thor’s subjects, of course; just doing their bit as brothers to conserve space), reading before they turned out the light: Loki was reading one of the books he always had stashed in a pocket dimension (some of the last remnants, alas, of Asgard’s great library); Thor was looking over the latest supply records to determine how soon they needed to stop and take on food and fuel. Or rather, he had meant to, but something had been preoccupying him for the last few days and he couldn’t hold it back any longer. “Loki, can I ask you something?” he finally blurted out. “And please don’t blow up at me.”

“Always a promising start to a conversation,” Loki said dryly, lowering his book.

“Well, just giving you fair warning.”

“Ask, and then we’ll see.”

“So… you were born Jötunn, right?”

“You really need me to answer that question?” Loki replied, his voice scathing, as he began to raise the book again and turn away from Thor.

“No, that’s not the question,” Thor assured him hurriedly, “that was just… preliminary. You were born Jötunn, but you look like an Ás

most of the time.”

“You look like an ass most of the time, too, but do I comment on it?”

Thor sighed and ignored the jape. “How? Is it a glamour, or…?”

“No, obviously not. It doesn’t fade on contact, as you know intimately.”
