Well, I did actually have them talk about their Odin feels quite extensively in a fic that’s no longer canon-compliant… I guess I just can’t resist the hugging and crying. (And a lot of what they say is still current, except for my clearly incorrect Hela-related speculation about how Loki got off Svartalfheim alive.)

And meh, the second trailer contradicted a story I started based on the first trailer. I’ll just pop a ‘canon divergence’ tag on that & keep on writing;)

Thanks!! I asked illwynd (who saw it at the premiere) about this, and they kindly reassured me that nothing in the movie makes the fic impossible. Which, of course, means the MCU is still not bothering to tell us what the hell happened to Loki, but also gives me more time to finish it before “Infinity War” renders it canon-divergent…

Fic summary (sort of): “‘I want you to fuck me,’ Loki panted beside Thor’s ear. … It was the third time that Loki had spoken those words. The first two times Thor had put him off, thinking that he was not ready, that he did not really know what he wanted. ‘First things first,’ Thor had told him, thinking to ease him into it with other, less weighty things… but he knew now that the desire Loki had expressed was no thoughtless, impulsive whim. ‘All right,’ Thor said.”

Chapter summary: Loki starts trying out his new present; he and Thor agree to a wager.

Yeah, I know I said I was going on a fic-writing hiatus until November 15, which is when I have to submit my dissertation (*high-pitched screaming*), but I already had about 2,000 words of this written and a reader kept bugging me (relatively politely), so I just decided to end the chapter sooner than I’d thought I was going to and here we are. It’s kind of a mess, like this fic is in general, but I hope some of you find it entertaining…

Can everyone on earth just agree that no one likes first person pov fanfics?

I’m kind of shocked at the irony that someone just followed me, I clicked on their page to check out who they were, and this was the post at the top.

No, we cannot agree that no one likes first person POV fanfics. I have, in fact, written what is currently a 72,000-word fanfic in the first person, and there are a number of people who like it (at least 139, because that’s how many have left kudos). Yes, the kudos-to-hits ratio is abysmal (pun intended), and that’s probably because people assume they won’t like it because it’s in the first person. But I’ve had quite a few readers tell me how surprised they were that they liked it because they “don’t usually” like first-person POV writing.

The problem seems to be that too many people who write in the first person do it badly, and either the POV accentuates the badness, or first person is uncommon enough that people are more willing to generalize about it from a few really bad cases.
