Because I’m a huge fucking dork and also pieces from the soundtracks kept coming up when I did a random song meme yesterday, I’m going to do my top 5 tracks from the Lord of the Rings movie soundtracks, composed by the sublime Howard Shore.

“The Breaking of the Fellowship,” FOTR
“The Steward of Gondor,” ROTK, featuring Billy Boyd singing (yeah, I like it depressing)
“Forth Eorlingas,” TTT
“The Ride of the Rohirrim,” ROTK
“Amon Hen,” FOTR, but mostly just for the bit at the end where Boromir dies… and then the transition into the next track, which is, of course, “The Breaking of the Fellowship”

Honorable mentions for “Concerning Hobbits” (a happy one!) and the end of “The Bridge of Khazad-dum,” after Gandalf falls, with that high keening boy soprano line. Man, that made me cry all 13 times I saw it in the theater.

fog – how well do you think you’d do in a zombie apocalypse scenario?

Hahaha I would definitely die. Or get zombified. I’ve never been an early adopter of anything, but I would be one of the first zombies.

17. Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?
It depends. I usually write things in order, but if I have a particular scene that’s burning a hole in my brain, I’ll write that first. Or actually, what I’m likely to do is write out the dialogue in script form, because that’s often what comes to me first, and then I go back later and fill in the surrounding action descriptions.

12. Favorite color?
Various combinations of blue, green, and gray. I guess a not-too-bright teal, based on the color of my rugs and the chair cushions I got from Ikea.

24. Favorite band?
I’m bad at this, because I don’t really keep up with contemporary music, I just listen to the indie station on satellite radio and then don’t buy much. I like Florence + the Machine, CHVRCHES, St. Vincent (that’s not really a band), Belle and Sebastian… stuff like that.
