Man arrested while attempting to destroy the Magna Carta

The Salisbury Journal’s Rebecca Hudson reports that a 45-year-old man was arrested today after “smashing the case of the Magna Carter with a hammer and trying to destroy it.”

A spokesman for Salisbury Cathedral said: “We can confirm that at the
end of the afternoon yesterday, a man attempted to break into the case
which houses Magna Carta in the Cathedral’s Chapter House. He was
arrested by police shortly afterwards and taken into custody. We are
very relieved that no one was hurt during the incident and that the
Magna Carta itself is undamaged.”

Magna Carta 1215 is the best surviving copy of one of Britain’s most
influential legal documents, and is on permanent display at Salisbury
Cathedral. It is regarded by historians as the foundation of
constitutional liberty in the English-speaking world.

Raging at limits on a monarch’s absolute authority over other agents of the feudal state? Now that’s dark enlightenment. The Forest Charter was the good one anyway, as far as the rest of us are concerned.

Hey but seriously Terry Pratchett was the only thing keepin The West Country from PHYSICALLY flinging itself into orbit, and this is just going to happen more and more often until someone restores a haunted gold torc to the barrow under the chalk.

Just a thought

In the MCU, Asgardians are thousands of years old, yet there are relatively very few children. Even Odin and Frigga only had one natural, legitimate, recognized heir in their thousands of years of marriage. If the line to the throne is familial, that is a politically unstable situation. And yet, no one thought it was odd.

Is it that Asgardians have very effective birth control measures in place, are they very infertile, or is sex something that happens much less often than in our culture? I mean, if it was great birth control, there would probably be some Asgardian version of the Duggers, who thought so highly of their own DNA that they had 2,000 kids. Right?

Thor’s attitude about kissing Jane at the end of the first Thor movie and Loki’s excessive jealousness about Thor finding a woman, would lead me to believe the latter.

If we accept the wild assumptions that we make about Loki’s sex life (because tbh Loki being some avid Lothario just feels right), then that would have made him even more of an outcast,

No, I don’t really have a point. Just random thoughts.

Discuss.

Well, this all seems fairly logical and I’ll add a few random thoughts you’ve sparked…

I’ll point out there were some children amongst those trying to escape Hela’s ascension. So they do happen… somehow?

They’ve probably got some fertility issues. And living on a magical floating landmass disc instead of a full blown planet that’s probably wise for potential overpopulation of such long lived creatures whether by biologic design or ridiculous decree.

I’ll further agree with the thought that Loki was othered throughout his lifetime in Asgard because he obviously embraced his position as second prince and probably banged romanced every willing partner that caught his fancy. (People need to stop slutshaming the boy)

Whilst poor, honorable Thor had to keep his dalliances respectably discreet in both frequency and partner choice, lest he procreate an unapproved heir or have suitors thinking sex means keys to kingdom in any capacity.

Also Volstagg. He seems an outlier with a large collection of children even greater than his appetite.

Well, of course Volstagg. And I know there are children, but if people have a few thousand year fertility window, it just seems like there should be…. more people. They could have 10 or 12 generations living at the same time easily.

Maybe there’s a life force(fertility) restriction because of the Odinforce. Where people can only become pregnant during release of that restriction because there have been deaths, whether due casualties, old age, or accident.

I’m sort of inclined to think Odin would do this kind of shitty thing.

And since Volstagg generally travels with Thor he knows to immediately take his missus to bed upon returning when the opportunity presents itself. Thus fortunate bragging rights on his large family….

Aaaaand I kinda just head canoned myself into thinking Volstagg might straight up murder somebody cause his wife wants another child and likes being pregnant. How could he say no to that? He loves children and that guy insulted Thor anyway.

Just keep scrolling. Idek anymore. I’m sorry.

DOn’t you DARE be sorry. That was awesome head canon.Keep going.

I hate to butt in RIGHT HERE but I just had to say that as much as I may joke about Loki being ‘promiscuous’ compared to the rest of Asgard and as much as myth!loki backs up a very sexually open-minded and…ACTIVE…Loki, I still actually don’t see mcu!Loki as someone who would embrace sex and/or reproduction any more than anyone else in Asgard.

But what I really wanted to say was how much I like the observation that Thor and Loki were the only two viable heirs for Odin in a society where people live for so long! Even including Hela, there’s a 5000 year lifespan here you’d think there would be many many children. I honestly never thought about that in a canon sense but it’s such a legit thing to notice. I’m gonna go with the idea that they have very effective and maybe even enforced birth control rules and methods. If a people lives naturally for that long, you HAVE to have such a thing just for things to stay in control.

This also tickles me because of how much I love my ‘very fertile Loki’ tropes in fanfics lol. Despite how I actually think

mcu!Loki may feel about sex and reproduction, in fic I still love my Loki and/or Thorki trope where Loki can get pregnant if you breathe wrong in his direction.

I kind of like the idea of restricted fertility windows. Like, the Asgardian menstrual cycle is really long and most of it is kind of a dead zone. Maybe there are a few days every ten years when an Asgardian with a uterus can get pregnant. The window passes, they have a period (Asgardian PMS is either really intense or not a problem at all, given their constitution), and then worry-free sex for the next 10 years. Or extreme frustration if you’re actually trying to get pregnant.

Yeah, everything you just said has been my base assumption about Asgardian fertility. It’s just really hard for an Asgardian to get pregnant even if they’re trying, and illegitimate babies are extremely rare.

Maybe the Asgardians with uteruses are 100% fertile at all times, but Asgardians with sperm are only virile certain times.

Thor (etc) shoots blanks 90% of the time, but during his time-of-the-century, he’s got competent sperm.
Whereas the uterused Asgardians never have menstruation or menopause or anything because they constantly have a certain hormone level of “sure, babies are fine” and the egg just sits there indefinitely until it gets fertilized or it gets absorbed back into the body and recreated every single day.

Keep punching Nazis.

Turns out punching Nazis isn’t just moral, it’s shockingly affordable.

Cinderella “plot holes” I am tired of hearing about

  1. “Why didn’t her step family recognize her?” Because royal balls were basically the candle lit equivalent of clubbing in terms of both lighting and sheer numbers. Even if they were right next to her, they probably wouldn’t get a good look, especially since it would have started after sundown. Also, she was the help; they probably hadn’t looked at her in years.
  2. “Looking for someone based on their shoe size is stupid!” See above.
  3. “Was he going to have every size seven in the kingdom try the slipper on?” Prior to industrialization most garments were made by hand to fit the buyer’s measurements, including shoes. It’s why poor people only had one pair. It’s a lot smarter when you consider that they would’ve fit her like a glove.
  4. “You can’t run down stairs in heels!” I know this is a misconception resulting from historical revisionism and disneyfication, but high heels were not originally women’s shoes. They were worn by men. Women wore slippers, which were basically ballet flats. So it’s debatable.
  5. “Glass shoes don’t make any sense!” Okay first of all, it’s called the suspension of disbelief, and secondly, they’re gold in every other version but Perrault decided to change them to something else expensive.
  6. “She just went to the ball to find a man!” I know this isn’t a plot hole but listen. As the daughter of a widower Cinderella would’ve been running the household finances and acting as hostess if he hadn’t remarried. By demoting Cinderella to a servant, her step-mother essentially guaranteed that she would never escape the house, because the only way for her to escape and maintain her status was to marry well, and no one was going to marry a servant. It was essentially the historical equivalent of your mom stealing your college acceptance letters out of the mailbox.

this was not an analysis i was prepared for, i’ll tell you that

Technically the original version has them being fur slippers. Which was uh, intentionally suggestive, if you get me.

hey loki, you know that tony sold the avengers tower, right? how are you still living there?

tbh I was about to make a joke about how I own it now and then I realized that  “spoiled foreign prince now owns a mostly-empty high-rise building in the middle of Manhattan after an arms dealer cut him a bargain” is a level of gritty realism I’m not sure you’re all ready for

On the other hand, “Immigrant Refuses to Vacate Stark Tower: prevents developers like Trump access to prime NY real estate” is absolutely the kind of headline I would like to see in the NY Times.

That’s A+ chaos, if you ask me.
