“...Gurira beat out Avengers: Infinity War’s Chris Hemsworth, Jurassic World star Chris Pratt, Deadpool 2’s Ryan Reynolds, and her Black Panther co-star, Chadwick Boseman, for the honor.”

“Thank you for affirming that women and girls, when they are given the chance to hang with the boys, can hang with the best of them…”

This is big ya’ll. Like really big.

Holy shit? 🔥👏🏾

She went against Marvel Universe and won. A queen

She deserved it 💯

Damn straight she beat Chris Hemsworth. No fucking contest.

There is a reason this is the last scene in which Okoye appears before the credits roll. It speaks volumes about the power black women possess. Seeing anyone, let alone a black man, submit to a black woman on screen in this way is a rarity.

Gurira thinks the message in that scene is vital for everyone, especially women and girls.

“You expect to use your love for me and our love for each other to actually get me to betray my nation, and I would kill you first. I love that,” she said. “I think women don’t often get to portray that sort of nobility and that sort of integrity, especially [choosing that] over their love.” – Danai Gurira on The Scene™

Your good feels moment for the day…💞  (x)

Danai Gurira discussing a moment she had with Martin Freeman’s son at the premiere in London.
…..

At the premiere of Black Panther Martin warned her that she was his son’s favourite character and so Martin whispered to her, “he’s gonna come at you”. When he did, Danai said “he just entwined his hand in mine, his fingers in mine and just held on to me so tight….and this little British young man was just so in love with these characters and with this world that it shattered any concept that these things can’t transcend unless they’re coming from one perspective…and he just would not let go of me. And it was just the most beautiful thing.”

So if you see non-blacks wondering if they can see Black Panther, which is apparently a thing 🙄 …..here is why you should.

this is why EVERYONE needs to see black panther. positive representation of black people matters, and not just to us.
