Oh snap, there it is.

No no no no no. I liked The Last Jedi. The ending felt authentic. Luke’s death felt natural and purposeful. The story was about characters suffering real, disappointing, but surmountable setbacks – much like The Empire Strikes Back.

Nothing about Infinity War felt authentic, natural, or purposeful. What’s more, we all know that the ending will be reversed through some sort of time travel. So what was the purpose of all that? It was, as one of my followers aptly put it, a “Shoot the Shaggy Dog” story. The only deaths likely to be permanent were the stupid, pointless ones in the first 5 minutes that were supposed to give Thor “motivation” that, apparently, he wouldn’t have had otherwise.

A pedantic but also kind of important note about the word “genocide”

As I understand it, part of the meaning of the word is that it’s the attempt to eliminate a specific *kind* of person (either from a certain territory/jurisdiction or from existence in the world as a whole), identified by race, ethnicity, religion, social class, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status, or some similar categorization scheme.

Thanos’s Snap therefore does not count as genocide because it is indiscriminate across such categories, so I prefer to call it “mass murder.” Arguably it is motivated by class-based contempt, but he does not specifically target the poor. His halving of individual populations like that of Gamora’s home planet might rightly be called genocide because he targeted that planet rather than others and was aiming to “cull” that specific population.

Carry on with eviscerating his defenders, though, because they’re appalling.

Loki, the God of Mischief – MCU 10th Anniversary Featurette.

Review Loki’s evil and heroic turns, from colluding with cosmic villains to teaming up with his brother Thor to save the universe.

Via Torrilla/weibo

The next… chapter? Did Tom just secretly confirm that Loki isn’t dead after all?!

I’m still skeptical. It could be a very short “chapter,” and the sense in which it “honors what has come before” might just be that Loki is a boring “good guy” now and recognizes that his only purpose in life is to sacrifice himself for Thor (again). And he does say “it will be surprising for the audience in terms of what they expect next” – which could be code for, “Surprise! He dies in the first 5 minutes, way more stupidly than you ever would have expected him to, and that’s it for your favorite character.”

Yeah I am extremely skeptical that this “you’ll be surprised” nonsense is anything but a red herring. I’m still not 100% certain we’ll even see Loki in A4; has anyone seen any other set pictures besides the one? Remember he was supposed to have a cameo in AoU and that ended up getting cut. I’m maintaining a zero faith policy tbh, all this theorizing is frankly giving Marvel too much credit. Maybe the new fan campaign to bring Loki back will work, maybe it won’t, but odds are even if it does they’ll just let writers/directors who don’t like him or understand him continue to butcher his character.

Oh yeah, fair point about the AoU scene. And I completely agree about the zero faith policy. Except for “Spider-Man” and “Black Panther,” all the MCU movies that have come out since 2016 have been huge disappointments. And I absolutely do not trust anyone there with Loki’s character.

Hey, I cant listen right now but what do the Russos say about Loki in Happy, Sad, Confused? Thank you.

I haven’t listened to the whole thing yet but in regards to the opening scene, They emphasized the “no resurrection this time” line and Josh said “that was a very important line” and they said “YES”. Means to me that all of these theories that Loki is alive are a waste.

They also said basically they killed Heimdall and Loki to take everything away from Thor and give him motivation to be the hero, but then also to make it personal so he made the mistake of wanting revenge on Thanos and not to just kill him- to have that moment to say that “I told you I’d get you” which was Thor’s mistake and allowed Thanos to do the snap. Both Thor and Quill allowed their personal feelings of anger and revenge overtake them and ruin their actual chance to defeat Thanos.

So basically they tossed Loki away in a way that was totally out of character just to make Thor more sympathetic. I love Thor and all but that is horseshit.

So the black and queer coded characters are used for the white, male power fantasy’s development. Yeah, fuck them. I ain’t seeing 4.

Black, queer coded and female characters. Yup.

Loki, Heimdall, and Gamora all got fridged. Real original, guys. Such revolutionary filmmaking.

At least Frigga died being badass. Loki died being an idiot. They just wanted to get him out of the way as quickly as possible, character consistency be damned.

as for the “tom too old to play loki”

not surprised it comes from the same people who gave us this useless fatphobic moment

not only does hemsworth look 1. much older than 34 (i’m not judging it’s whatever) 2. older STILL with thor’s new beard

it’s kind of okay if they don’t look like they’re in their early 20s

they are ~1500 years old and they’ve been through hell

it’s okay if they look a bit tired

still, can’t believe they actually fucking said it

it’s just rude

poor tom for having to actively promote this shit

Why did Josh Horowitz not object? He did object (rightly) to the idea that Idris Elba is aging, but I thought he might have stood up for his friend.

imaginetrilobites:

i’m laughing so hard not even because of the whole ‘hiddleston too old’ thing but

they kill off loki and heimdall

to give thor movitation

thor

who is a god and a king and an avenger and represents all that is good

and is the epitome of protectiveness

… yeah i can totally imagine how thor finds out about a guy who 1. tortured his beloved brother 2. wants to murder half the universe 3. can actually do it

and thor is just like yeah i think i’m gonna sit this one out
