The composition here is very interesting. To some extent it indicates which villains they take to be most important; note that secondary villains like Justin Hammer, Kurse, Ayesha, and Ulysses Klaue are placed farther back and smaller than primary villains. Not sure why Zemo is so far back and tiny, though, considering that he was the primary villain of Civil War… maybe because he’s an operate-from-the-shadows kind of villain? (Computer-Zola is also in the back, but that might be for purely visual considerations.) Also, they’ve got the Mandarin a.k.a. Trevor Slattery on there pretty prominently, but where’s Aldrich Killian? Is he the guy between Ego and Zemo who looks like he’s on fire? Because if not I can’t figure out who that is. Note also that Hela and Ayesha are the only women. C’mon, Marvel.
Most importantly, though: what does it mean that Loki is placed front and center, and relatively larger than his nearest neighbors, making it look like he’s farther forward? Is it just because he was the villain of the first ensemble Avengers movie? Does it recognize the connection between him and Thanos? Is it an acknowledgment of his popularity, and the fact that he consistently gets ranked as the best Marvel villain? Might it be a sign (please, please) that they’ll let him play a significant role in Infinity War? (Again, I know I’m grasping at straws…)
Tbh I think the overall critical and audience reaction to infinity war is going to be “??????? What the fuck”
65% rt score
Like it seems…….not only tone deaf given the current state of mind everyone has. But completely misunderands why people like Marvel movies. No one wants their faves’ send off to be a gratuitously depressing end that spits in the face of all the struggles they endured before it. No one wants to see that.
All the unnecessarily dark and destructive shit is why people DON’T like the DC movies. Not a good role model, Marvel.
all i’m saying is…….there’s a reason thor: ragnarok, black panther, and guardians of the galaxy have done so fucking well
Well, I actually think Thor: Ragnarok misfired by overdoing it on both the humor and the casual murder (especially in combination). But I thought Iron Man (1 and 3),the Avengers films,Guardians of the Galaxy, and Black Panther,in their different ways, all managed tostrike the right balance between humor, pathos, and concern for avoiding collateral damage.
Marvel: Infinity War is going to be HUGE and DRAMATIC. People will DIE for GOOD. 40 characters on screen at once!!!!!11 The color palette is shades of red and grey from now on, bitches!!!!!!!
Everyone: put it back

Asgard is not a place, it’s a people. Oops now it’s just you Thor. And the random Asgardians that pop up on SHIELD maybe…?
Two-step Ragnarok: first the place gets destroyed, then the people get destroyed.
LOL, Asgard is now Thor, Brunnhilde (evidence suggests she’ll survive), maybe Loki (but not for long), and that one vaguely lecherous professor chillin’ in Seville.
And possibly also Sif. (Thanks for the reminder, @foundlingmother.)

This doesn’t look good….. at all. I’m going to be crying as soon as this movie starts.
This is what I expected after seeing the trailer. And remember that most people on the refugee ship are civilians. Asgard’s soldiers were killed off by Hela. Even with Thor’s and Loki’s “teams” they will be outgunned.
Yeah….
So there was no point in saving everyone in Ragnarok.
This is the opposite of what we want, Marvel. Srsly…
Fucking called it. Of course they were going to sacrifice the Asgardians to show us Thanos is the real deal.
This isn’t really news, is it? There was that clip from the trailer with one of Thanos’s generals stepping over the bodies of Asgardians. Of course, “horrific slaughter” does not yet tell us whether Thanos will kill everyone except Thor (and possibly Loki).
If they kill Valkyrie, I’m going to be so pissed. How dare they introduce a complex, powerful WOC character (and displace two smart, strong-willed women to do it) for one movie and then kill her off at the beginning of the next. I also won’t be thrilled if they kill Heimdall, but I know Idris Elba was chafing at the occasionally undignified physical demands of the role; and I’ve also heard speculation that he has the Soul Stone (which is how he can see what everyone is doing), which would give Thanos an actual plot-driven reason to kill him (like Vision *sniff* and possibly Loki).
Gotta say, though, I won’t be at all sad if Korg and Miek die.
From Entertainment Weekly’s interview with Kevin Feige:
One criticism you’ve gotten is when somebody dies in a Marvel movie, they tend to come back in some way. If it happens, will it be for real this time? Yes. I mean, I could always list off the characters that we’ve killed in our movies that haven’t come back, but the big ones, which I know they’re looking at …? [Pause.] I would just say, yes. People need to be careful what they wish for.
Loki is so, so dead. I just hope he’ll have a chance to do some cool stuff before he dies. And that he’ll die doing something epic.
