Ok from where you’re sitting right now I want you to try and slowly scan the room from left to right in one smooth motion. It’s not possible- instead, your eyes move along in little jumps called saccades. Now I want you to lift your pointer finger up and move it along from left to right, following it with your eyes. You’ll now notice your eyes no longer move in saccades but follow your finger in a swift motion known as a “smooth pursuit”. This movement allows our eyes to closely follow a moving object and evolved to aid us in catching prey or keep away from predators. People with autism, abuse victims and those under the influence of alcohol or drugs often show a lack or defecit of smooth pursuit.

please someone tell me I’m not the only one who ignores all my actual duties to obsessively check whether there are new comments on my fanfics and re-read old ones if there aren’t.

I may or may not have kept some favourites in my inbox…

I only check once a day, because otherwise I’d lose my mind. But I do save them all to read offline when I’m feeling blue or stuck or having some kind of bad day. Because it’s nice to be reminded that I can write something that made someone laugh, or cry, or get so mad that they yelled at their screen. We all need that validation. And some days, I need it a lot.

Hell, I obsessively check for new kudos. I need whatever meager source of external validation I can get.

before I see some sort of shit drama REALLY light up over Loki/Valkyrie (tbh it’s probably already going on, but I don’t follow the sorts of people who get their jimmies rustled over beautiful people like Idris and Tessa and Taika), it’s worth remembering that Loki is not only the sort of fictional character to exist on countless different levels of meta, meaning however you want to picture them romantically, sexually or asexually is pretty damn valid (why yes, you too can collect your own personal Loki at the corner store. I have a deluxe version that doesn’t shut the fuck up like ever), but that the firmer canons already puts Loki on spectrums that validate anything you want to ship or imagine.

Canonically, at least one Loki is genderfluid, openly sexual, has a wild swingin’ history, is a patron of such acts as to shame for vanilla whatever smutty fic you’ve come up with, and is not the sort of individual you’re going to embarrass.

Mythologically, there is no shit Loki has not been in, women Loki has not fucked, men Loki has not fucked, monsters Loki has not fucked. Or, conversely, been fucked by.

It’s kind of Loki’s thing.

Tom Bombadil is the best/most amusing character in anything I’ve ever read because here you have this dude who skips around the forest all day and sings nonsense songs about himself, and the One Ring, the single most powerful object in all of Middle Earth that a fucking ancient evil is furiously searching for, has absolutely no effect on him. He pops it on and doesn’t turn invisible like most do when they accessorize themselves with the pure manifestation of power and greed but instead pulls some sleight of hand shenanigans and makes it disappear into thin air like a party trick before casually flipping it back to Frodo. Frodo asks Tom’s wife who the hell he is and she just responds “He is” because Tommyboy over here is fucking beyond mortal description. The elves, who are essentially immortal themselves, refer to to this guy as “the Elderest” because he was there before any of even the oldest beings on the planet could remember. The only reason the Fellowship didn’t pick the guy to journey to and destroy the Ring in Mordor was because he might accidentally displace the whispering hellcircle that even Gandalf, a primordial spirit that helped in shaping the world, was afraid to touch because Tom Bombadil just doesn’t give a shit. So the character that many scholars speculate is the supreme being and one true god of Tolkien’s entire universe is just this secondary character that refers to himself in third person and fishes in the forest while writing iffy poetry

“why aren’t u talking abt this one Problematic thing involving that actor/show u like??”

listen. i am tired. im putting down my pitchfork. i’ll acknowledge that thing was bad if it was but im tired of vilifying ppl for their mistakes just bc they’re famous. i want to enjoy things. i want Peace

For a long time I was second guessing everything I liked because they did this or that wrong, the actors did this, the writers did that, they left out this or ignored that… It’s just too much.

It’s just so tiring. Acknowledge where they can do better, but give yourself a break for the things you like. No one is perfect and you can like things that aren’t perfect.

Boom, there it is.

All-or-nothing thinking is so draining and toxic. It’s okay to say “I’m aware of x, y, and z, but I really like a, b, and c.”

It’s okay to have a multi-faceted, nuanced understanding of the people and things around you.

I just can’t get behind the whole “this person said/did this one bad thing this one time, therefore they are literal human trash #deleted forever bye!” all-or-nothing culture

it’s toxic and it’s draining, and it puts people in the awful position of being a hair’s breadth from “unproblematic fave” to “garbage person” with zero possibility of being allowed to grow or change

this kind of all-or-nothing thinking is *exhausting*. people fuck up. people grow. people make mistakes and sometimes say imperfect things and sometimes act shitty. people can also learn and change and move on

but it takes grace and compassion
