I have absolutely nothing going on tomorrow. So of course I will fold and put away the laundry I washed a week ago, finish the giveaway fic I owe someone, and clear up all the crap I have lying around my apartment before the cleaning person comes to make it vaguely presentable for the relatives who are coming for graduation.

Haha, who am I kidding? I’m probably going to sleep until 5pm and waste the rest of the evening dicking around on the internet and watching TV.

Rules: answer these 30 Qs and then tag 10 blogs you want to get to know

Nicknames: Phil (but only on Tumblr/AO3)

Gender/Pronouns: she/her

Star Sign: Libra

Time: 6:50 PM

Birthday: September 30

Favorite Bands: The Decemberists, Florence + the Machine, Steeleye Span (yeah I listen to my parents’ music)

Favorite Solo Artists: Ben Folds, Regina Spektor, Judy Collins (I’m an old woman at heart don’t judge me)

Song Stuck In Your Head Right Now: Fortunately, nothing. Usually a piece I’ve been singing in choir.

Last Movie You Watched: All That Heaven Allows (1955, dir.: Douglas Sirk), for a film & philosophy conference. It’s a melodrama on the surface with a lot going on underneath.

Last Show: “RuPaul’s Drag Race” – a friend and I are still making our way through All-Stars 3

Why Did You Create Your Blog: I got into the MCU in 2015 and started writing fanfiction again and posting in on AO3 (which I learned about through a Loki fan site), but I was having trouble finding a readership, so a friend who was more up on geek fandom than I was recommended getting a Tumblr blog to promote my fic.

Other Blogs: None

Do You Get Asks: Occasionally

How Did You Get The Idea For Your URL: I wanted an author name and URL that would reflect my identity more broadly than just my interest in Loki and the MCU. I had come up with a Nietzschean interpretation of Loki’s weird speeches about freedom in The Avengers (which I explain in my fic about Loki’s missing year between Thor and The Avengers, The Abyss Gazes Also); I found it interesting that he was attempting to use ideology, not just the threat of force, to conquer, and I thought that was in keeping with the pensive, inward-focused character we saw in Thor. So that’s how I came to the idea in the title and subtitle of my blog: “Loki is the Philosopher-King, if the philosophy were less Plato and more Nietzsche.” I had already posted some stories on AO3 as Philosopher_King; that on its own wasn’t available on Tumblr, so I added “1887″ because it’s the year Nietzsche published what I think are his most important, inventive works: the second edition of The Gay Science, with Book V added, and On the Genealogy of Morality.

I Follow: 324

Followers: 668

Average Hours Of Sleep: Because of incredibly annoying and often distressing very vivid dreams that I’ve been having every night for the past 6 years, I need to get 10 hours of sleep or I don’t feel rested.

Lucky Number: I don’t think I have one

Instruments: I used to play the piano, the flute, and the oboe; now I just sing

What Are You Wearing Right Now: pajama pants and a T-shirt

Dream Trip: Northern Europe: Scotland, Iceland, Denmark, Norway

Significant Other: my cat, Meg

Last Book I Read: I started rereading A Wrinkle in Time because I saw the movie and it was pretty different from what I remembered of the book… but then I got bored

Top 3 Fictional Universes: MCU, I guess, even though I’m seriously pissed at its creators right now; Westeros and Essos (George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire and the Game of Thrones TV show); Arda (the name of Tolkien’s planet, including Middle-earth and Valinor)

Oh man, I just tagged a bunch of people for something else… I hereby tag anyone who sees this and wants to do it.

Name: Phil (for fandom purposes)

Gender: Cis woman, more or less. I think maybe I would have identified as non-binary if I’d been born later, but as it is I take the path of least resistance.

Star Sign: Libra, but the “signs as” things never work for me. Gemini ascendant, which is better.

Height: 5’1”

Sexuality: het-leaning bi (Kinsey 2)

What images do you have set as your desktop/cellphone wallpaper? Computer desktop is random waterscapes that came with the computer; phone wallpaper is part of the view from the winery where I worked in spring-summer 2014

Have you ever had a crush on a teacher? Hahaha yeah. I had a really unhealthy crush on my undergraduate advisor (who was 44 when I was 20) and some less inappropriate crushes on grad student TAs and postdoctoral lecturers.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? A philosophy professor with tenure, God willing. Preferably in a place that doesn’t suck to live.

If you could be anywhere else right now, where would you be? Scotland would be fun. Or wine tasting in France or Germany.

What was your coolest Halloween costume? My second year of grad school I dressed as Immanuel Kant: I borrowed a long tailored coat from a classmate and wore it with a button-up shirt, black pants tucked up to be knee-breeches, white tights, and very 18th-century-style low-heeled black shoes. I didn’t have a wig, but I tied my hair in a low ponytail and people got the idea… especially when I tilted my head forward and looked serious like in the portrait on the cover of the Cambridge University Press editions.

What’s your favorite 90s show? “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”… but I didn’t watch it until a couple years ago. I wasn’t very culturally aware in the 90s.

Who was your last kiss? Uh… I guess the guy I slept with at Thanksgiving. The stepson of the brother of my parents’ college friend, which is why we were staying in the same place. We’re not actually related.

Have you ever been stood up? Not that I can recall.

Have you ever been to Las Vegas? Yes, for a friend’s birthday. It was terrible. I never want to go back.

Favorite pair of shoes: My slippers, probably.

Favorite fruit: Marionberry. Look them up, they’re amazing.

Favorite book: The Gay Science by Friedrich Nietzsche, of course. Fiction? Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series, if that counts.

Stupidest thing you’ve ever done: Um… had sex on the floor of the seminar room in my department? Incidentally, that was at the Halloween party where I wore the Immanuel Kant costume.

I just turned in an application I’d been procrastinating on (because I’ve been depressed as fuck) right under the wire – it was due at midnight EDT.

I feel like these days I’m just scraping through life by the skin of my teeth. Like, I manage to get things done, but not easily or with good time management or even particularly well.

The academic job market is a truck and it has run over my spirit.
