Tag Game

I was tagged by @delyth88 and @lucianalight about a week ago. Sorry for the delay…

What name/nickname would you like people to call you here on Tumblr? Phil

Gender: Cis woman, more or less

Height: 5′1″

Are you on the older or younger end of the spectrum on Tumblr? Middle, I think? I’m 30.

Can you think in both metric and imperial? Sort of. I’m an American who’s moved to Canada for a year, so I’m getting better at temperature in Celsius and speed in km/hour, but my brain definitely still functions on the silly Imperial system.

What time is it where you are now? 5:44 PM

Do you use AM/PM or 24 hour clock? AM/PM, but I don’t have much trouble with 24 hour.

Are you usually early or late? Late, to my shame.

Favourite band: I dunno, it varies. I like the Decemberists, Fleet Foxes, Florence + the Machine… fake folk music, I guess.

What is your favourite unusual genre of music to listen to? Movie soundtracks (which I guess is not that unusual, given that both of my taggers also named it) and recordings from choir concerts I’ve sung in (is that a genre? I like it because it doesn’t distract me).

Last movie I saw: On a long flight I watched Pacific Rim and part of Ocean’s 8.

Last TV show I watched: I’ve been rewatching “Angel,” as I’m sure you all know.

Did you last read a book or fan fic? Most recently I was reading fic updates on my phone on the subway, but I’ve also been reading Frankenstein on my Kindle on planes, because I hadn’t read it before and it’s the 200th anniversary.

What sort of fan fic do you like to read? Thorki and some Loki-centric gen. Some angst is good, but I’ve been steering clear of excessive whump recently.

What do I post on this blog? It used to be mostly Thorki, Loki, and MCU stuff, but I’ve been feeling alienated from the MCU and its fandoms (especially the Thorki fandom, for reasons of which all of my followers are aware), so these days it’s mostly shitposts and my liveblogs of rewatching “Buffy” and “Angel.” I also post some political stuff, cute animals, and (mostly humorous) posts about Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, and Star Wars.

If you could live in another country which one would it be? Scotland

Do you consider yourself adventurous? Not really, no. I’m an adventurous eater and drinker, and I consider myself intellectually adventurous, but I don’t like taking risks with my safety or traveling in really unfamiliar places.

What hobby would you get into if time and money weren’t an issue? Playing violin is a good one. Or maybe I’d just get even more into wine and whisky connoisseurship.

What would be your first question after waking up from being cryogenically frozen for 100 years? “What the fuck is going on?”

What superpower would you like to have? I recently read an argument that freezing time would be the best superpower. Time travel is kind of appealing, but also seems to involve a lot of pitfalls.

How many people am I supposed to tag here? Uh… @angryowlet, @imaginetrilobites, @impalaforthree, @incredifishface@iscariotsss, @queen-of-akorros, @queencfthestarsdrfoster@seidrade@whitemage03

I was tagged by @seiramili7 to do one of those “get to know you” memes. Thanks!

Relationship status: Single, very single. I just deleted Tinder from my phone because I realized I don’t want to be dating. I’ll psychoanalyze myself about it later.

Favorite Colors: blue and green and combinations thereof

Lipstick or Chapstick: off-brand chapstick

3 Favorite foods: Afghan spiced pumpkin (kaddo), Persian pomegranate-walnut stew (fsenjan), Ethiopian anything with the sourdough bread (injera). I think I need to go out to eat… I’ve been eating too much boring food at home.

Song stuck in my head: “Dear Theodosia” from Hamilton (because I just reblogged that post where Lin-Manuel says that he wrote it the week he and his wife adopted their dog)

Last song I listened to: I don’t know, I don’t usually listen to music while working. I’ve been watching a lot of “Angel,” so I guess the credits music…

Last movie I watched: Um… I’m not sure I’ve watched any movies since I made my friends watch X-Men: Days of Future Past, which was also my answer the last time I did a meme that asked this.

Top 3 TV shows: “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “The West Wing” (the seasons Aaron Sorkin wrote), “The Good Place”

Books I’m currently reading: Nothing, really. I bought The Fifth Season, the first book of N.K. Jemisin’s Broken Earth series, on Kindle, but I haven’t started reading it. I’ve also been meaning to read The Master and Margarita for a while because I named my cat Margarita as kind of a joke.

Last thing I googled: “black cat reddish fur” because I read something suggesting that my cat’s rust-colored highlights might be a sign of a tyrosine deficiency… but that might only be if your cat used to be all black and they start turning rust-colored. She’s always had the highlights, so it’s probably just a recessive red gene, which is more common in long-haired cats.

Time: 3:25 pm

How many blankets do you sleep in: Usually just one, over a sheet. When it’s especially warm, just the sheet; when it’s cold I add a comforter.

Dream trip: Scotland and Scandinavia for Scotch and scenery.

Anything you really want: A tenure-track job in a location that doesn’t suck.

OK, I’m supposed to tag 15 people I want to get to know better… @angryowlet, @arthelia, @assholewaren@darkellaine@edge-of-silvermoon, @gingermous@impalaforthree, @just-another-millenial97, @malicemanaged, @miharu87@ms-cellanies, @qr-sa@seamayweed, @victoriousgirlgrowsup@whitemage03

I was tagged by @musclesandhammering… only 3 days ago! My response time is improving.

Gender: cis woman

Height: 5′1″

Hogwarts House: I got Slytherin the first time I took the Pottermore sorting quiz several years ago, then Ravenclaw when I took it again more recently. So… Slytherclaw?

Favorite Animal: Cats. All of the cats. Foxes are cute, but they make the most appalling noises.

Average Hours Of Sleep: I need 10 or I don’t feel rested, probably because of the ridiculously vivid dreams I have every night. This is a source of endless annoyance and frustration to me.

Cats or Dogs: cats, obviously

Dream Trip: The far north of Europe: Scotland, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland. I want to see fjords and geysers and northern lights and where they filmed north of the Wall in Game of Thrones and try lots of different kinds of Scotch.

Dream Job: Tenured professor at a smallish research university with a modest teaching load and smart, motivated, but not grade-grubbing students. Is that too specific?

When I Made this Account: November 2015, after I started writing fanfiction again after a 10-year hiatus.

I think I’m going to tag my most 10 recent followers just to find out what they’re about: @pennie-dreadful, @bambi-butt, @thatwhichilove, @internalmessandweird, @angryowlet, @radioactivephysicist, @edge-of-silvermoon, @thedarklingwitch, @impalaforthree

Rules: tag ten followers you want to know better

@iscariotsss tagged me 5 days ago. This is an improvement from the 2-week lag time on the last couple of memes I was tagged in.

NAME:  Phil

STAR SIGN: Libra, which isn’t very accurate for those “the signs as” lists; Gemini ascendant, which is more accurate

HEIGHT: 5′1″

WHAT’S YOUR MIDDLE NAME? Osopher. As in Phil Osopher King. (That sounds like “Ossifer,” the drunk version of “Officer,” doesn’t it?)

PUT YOUR ITUNES ON SHUFFLE. WHAT ARE THE FIRST 4 SONGS THAT POPPED UP?

  1. “Harry’s Wondrous World” from the soundtrack to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
  2. “The Barber and His Wife” from the original Broadway cast recording of Sweeney Todd (none of that movie soundtrack bullshit)
  3. “Quartet” from the soundtrack to Angels in America (it’s by Thomas Newman and it’s really good)
  4. “Once Upon a Time in Your Wildest Dreams” from the Moody Blues, Legend of a Band

See, I don’t just listen to soundtracks. Sometimes I also listen to my parents’ weird prog rock.

GRAB THE BOOK NEAREST YOU AND TURN TO PAGE 23. WHAT’S LINE 17?

The book nearest to me didn’t technically have a page 23 because it was the second of a 2-volume Complete Works of Aristotle and started on page 1251. So let’s see what was on page 23 of the Complete Works of Plato (I swear there’s a good reason I’m looking at these). Oh, it’s from the Apology. And it’s in the middle of a sentence… I guess I’ll just give the sentence:

“From then Meletus attacked me, and Anytus and Lycon, Meletus being vexed on behalf of the poets, Anytus on behalf of the craftsmen and the politicians, Lycon on behalf of the orators, so that, as I started out by saying, I should be surprised if I could rid you of so much slander in so short a time.”

EVER HAD A POEM OR SONG WRITTEN ABOUT YOU? Not to my knowledge, fortunately.

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU PLAYED AIR GUITAR? I really do not remember. Not for a while.

WHO IS YOUR CELEBRITY CRUSH? Tom Hiddleston as Loki, obviously.

WHAT’S A SOUND YOU HATE + SOUND YOU LOVE? I hate the sound of alarm clocks that sound like the one I had in high school… I flinch if I even hear one on TV. I love the little “mrrf” sound my cat makes when she jumps down from something, like the kitty version of “oof.”

DO YOU BELIEVE IN GHOSTS? I believe the stories other people tell about them, but I have never had an encounter myself.

HOW ABOUT ALIENS? I am genuinely troubled by Fermi’s Paradox… but yes.

DO YOU DRIVE? Yes

IF SO, HAVE YOU EVER CRASHED? Yes, but never seriously

WHAT WAS THE LAST BOOK YOU READ? a bullshit book of secondary literature on Nietzsche that I’m STILL WORKING ON REVIEWING JESUS CHRIST

DO YOU LIKE THE SMELL OF GASOLINE? Only when it’s called “petrol” and you get a whiff of it from a slightly aged small-source Riesling.

WHAT WAS THE LAST MOVIE YOU SAW? I think it was X-Men: Days of Future Past, which I made my friends watch because I needed them to understand how gay the new X-Men movies are.

DO YOU HAVE ANY OBSESSIONS RIGHT NOW? I mean, Loki is the reason I have this blog, so.

DO YOU TEND TO HOLD GRUDGES AGAINST PEOPLE WHO HAVE DONE YOU WRONG? Haha yeah.

IN A RELATIONSHIP? My cat and I are pretty codependent.

tagging: @iamanartichoke, @iamtrashofthetrashiestorder, @imaginetrilobites@musclesandhammering, @queen-of-akorros, @seidrade, @shes-gone-rogue@taciyet, @wnnbdarklord, @wouldyouknowmore (yes I would know more, LOL)

I’m going to make a new post rather than reblogging because this chain is getting awkwardly long. I was tagged by @acebakes. Thanks! Though the following would not seem to support the claim that I have good taste.

Rules: tag 9 people with excellent taste.

Colors I’m currently wearing: gray, red, and black (it’s a Stanford T-shirt and PJ shorts)

Last band shirt I bought: I don’t think I’ve ever bought a band T-shirt…

Last band I saw live: Uh… probably my friends’ folk duo. I don’t see a lot of live music; it tends to be too loud. Unless it’s classical or choral music, that’s fine.

Lipstick or Chapstick: chapstick in the winter

Last song I listened to: Sylvan Esso was playing on the NPR show “Live From Here” on Saturday, so…

Last movie I watched: X-Men: First Class

Last three TV shows I watched: “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Westworld,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”

Last three characters I identified with: Loki (obvs), Amy Santiago, Hailey Rutledge from “Mozart in the Jungle”

Books I’m currently reading: A really badly written book about Nietzsche that I’m supposed to be reviewing. The stylistic and grammar problems make me want to cry. How did this make it through the review process at an academic press?! (Answer: academic presses actually do less editing than commercial presses.)

Tagging: @darklittlestories, @foundlingmother, @ghostxforest, @iscariotsss, @lucianalight@lunariagold, @princess-ikol, @seidrade, @shine-of-asgard (I kind of keep tagging the same people for everything… sorry)

@incredifishface tagged me to do the following: “Once you get this, you have to say five things you like about yourself, publicly. then you have to send this to ten of your favorite followers.” Thank you so much!

1. I have a good memory for names, words, facts, and dates (less so for faces, unfortunately).

2. I think thoroughly and carefully about things: philosophy, literature, politics, history. (Not always before I start talking, but eventually.)

3. Corollary to #2: I have a very sensitive bullshit detector.

4. I come through for my friends. I will pick them up from the police station in the middle of the night and front their bail if necessary (assuming they haven’t murdered anyone).

5. My advisors tell me I’m a good writer with something resembling style – which is very rare in analytic philosophy.

I think I’m meant to send the prompt into people’s ask boxes, but tagging is easier, so: @cookiesforthedarkside, @foundlingmother, @fuckyeahrichardiii@iamhisgloriouspurpose@illwynd@imaginetrilobites @iscariotsss, @princess-ikol, @seidrade@shine-of-asgard

I could have been working on fanfiction or reading the book I’m supposed to be reviewing or sending important e-mails to keep my move to Canada on track, but instead I spent the last hour or so arguing with a guy I don’t know very well, but from whom I expected better, about Slavoj Žižek’s new essay on “transgenderism” (yes, he uses that word). Procrastination is the name of the game.

Tagged by @foundlingmother. I’m doing it now so I don’t forget.

1. coffee or tea [though really it depends on time of day… coffee in the morning, tea later]

2. early bird or night owl

3. chocolate or vanilla

4. spring or fall

5. silver or gold

6. pop or alternative

7. freckles or dimples [though really, what kind of a question is that? I tend to judge faces holistically]

8. snakes or sharks

9. mountains or fields

10. thunderstorm or lightning [wait, what? They’re a package deal. I mean, I like the rain part best, but you don’t get a thunderstorm without lightning]

11. egyptian or greek mythology [apparently the lack of capitalization is part of the style of the meme. I’m side-eyeing it.]

12. ivory or scarlet

13. flute or lyre

14. eyes or lips

15. witch or fairy

16. opal or diamond

17. butterflies or and honeybees

18. macarons or eclairs

19. typewritten or handwritten letters

20. secret garden or secret library

21. rooftop or balcony

22. spicy or mild [how about medium?]

23. opera or ballet

24. london or paris

25. vincent van gogh or claude monet

26. denim or leather [aesthetically; as a practical point, I wear a lot more denim]

27. potions or spells

28. ocean or desert

29. mermaid or siren

30. masquerade ball or and cocktail party

Since tagging mostly appears to be useless at the moment, I’m tagging anyone who sees this.

philosopherking1887:

This is the first time since Friday night that I haven’t had relatives in my house. It’s glorious. Unfortunately, though, I’m too tired to get anything written. I’ll probably just go to bed at 10:30 like the elderly person I secretly am.

Now the last of the visiting relatives have left for the airport and are out of my hair… at least until my mom starts calling to harass me about the Canadian work permit application and booking a trip to look at apartments, which she will almost certainly do tomorrow.
