A guide to my MCU negativity tags

I’ve lost a few followers for excessive negativity, especially about Thor: Ragnarok and (to a lesser extent) Infinity War, so I figure I should explain how people can avoid seeing that if they want to (following @foundlingmother‘s lead). I’m reasonably consistent with tagging, so you should be able to avoid it, with a few caveats that I’ll explain below.

I have two anti-Ragnarok tags: thor ragnarok criticism and thor ragnarok hate. I make the distinction for my own purposes: the “hate” tag is just for offhand negative comments, while I reserve “criticism” for thought-out and evidentially supported arguments, either my own or other people’s. I do this so that I can search my “criticism” tag to link to in future critical posts in order to avoid rehashing the same arguments over and over and…

Relatedly, I have some tags I use when I’m bitching about the people I blame for Ragnarok, Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth. I have a couple different ones mainly because I try to cover the ones I think people would filter if that’s something they don’t want to see, regardless of who’s posting it. So I use anti-chris hemsworth, chris hemsworth hate, anti-taika waititi, and taika waititi hate. Unfortunately, though, when I’m on my phone, the suggested tags never have hyphens in them. This can lead to inconsistency: sometimes I just select anti chris hemsworth or anti taika waititi both because I’m lazy and because it makes me wonder whether the people who want to filter those things would even think to put in the hyphen. So you’re probably best off filtering or blacklisting both the hyphenated and the unhyphenated versions.

Regarding Infinity War, I’ve gotten into the habit of tagging with some combination of fuck infinity war, fuck the russos, fuck markus and mcfeely, fuck kevin feige, and fuck marvel. Sometimes I’ll also add infinity war hate to cover people who might have filtered that but not the “fuck” variants. I’ve noticed that a lot of people use “infinity war salt,” but that doesn’t quite feel strong enough to me, and the use of “salt” in that sense feels very of-the-moment and not as enduring as good old “hate.” Or “fuck.”

I also refuse to tag my Ragnarok– and Infinity War-critical posts as “fandom wank,” “marvel wank,” or what have you, because I don’t consider well-reasoned criticism of a piece of media, or even just hate with good reasons behind it, to be “wank.” I reserve “fandom wank” for bitching about social dynamics within the Thorki, Thor, Loki, or MCU fandoms.

Another potential source of inconsistency that applies to all of these tags is the fact that the autofill function on my phone automatically adds a space after a suggested word when I select it. Sometimes I remember to delete the space after I’ve selected the word, but sometimes I’m typing fast and I hit the enter button before I remember. I know this because the Tumblr app often gives me two versions of the same suggested tag, and the only possible difference between them is whether or not there’s a space after the last word. So if you really don’t want to see any of my negative posts but still want to follow me because I’m just so delightful otherwise (ha ha), make sure to filter and/or blacklist those tags both with and without spaces after them.
