Cue in Loki, a doctorate student, part time professor and full time academic nut who specializes in Nordic mythology. He shows up at the office almost arbitrarily, flouncing his way into Thor’s office, smelling distinctly of chai and cinnamon, in his heeled Chelsea boots (that still don’t make him taller than Thor).
They’re so different that it’s a wonder that they’re even related; where Thor is broad, Loki is lithe and streamlined, where Thor is straight and golden, Loki is curly and dark. They’re the oddest pair of brothers the staff has ever seen. But that’s the thing… they’re not brothers. Loki is Thor’s husband.
Thor has never been one to pay mind to gossip but Loki just loves how perverse the idea of it all is and makes Thor play out these scenes with him both when they’re the only two left in the office and in the confines of their home.
Bonus points (i.e. things to keep in mind but aren’t ENTIRELY necessary): They’re actually Norwegian and Thor was sent to man the American branch of the company (which would explain why nobody knows that Loki isn’t a “true” son of Odin because nobody has met old man Odin himself). They usually speak to each other in Norwegian or at least use Norwegian pet names that everyone just assumes translates into some variant of “brother” and not “my love”/“my darling”/“my heart”
Bonus points cont: Thor is at the most 4-6 years older than Loki and this plays a HUGE part in Loki’s fantasies and everyone else’s delusions because Thor is naturally super protective and nurturing which makes Loki come across as a shade younger than he actually is
I bought this pewter Dagaz rune pendant at the Renaissance fair yesterday. It’s supposed to symbolize a breakthrough or positive life-transformation. It also occurred to me that the meaning (day, dawn) coincided with the title of one of Nietzsche’s books, alternately translated as either “Dawn” or “Daybreak,” but the German title is actually “Morgenröthe,” literally “morning red,” so that doesn’t quite work.
Later I looked up about more about rune meanings and discovered that ansuz, the “messenger rune,” is the one associated with the god Loki. Maybe I’ll look for that online or at my next weird street fair.
I wore my rune necklace under my shirt while teaching today. It made me feel better for some reason. Gotta love that placebo effect.
MCU Loki may have his roots based on the Comics Loki but, right from the beginning he went a different path.
That’s what I’m always saying. Praise your words. But there’ll always be many people pissed about MCU Loki not being exactly like the other two versions. The hardest is they mix their connections with actual canon stuff and mock you for not acknowledging it. MCU Loki is inspired by the comics and Norse Mythology – not an exact copy of them.
