This is taken from the first page of ‘How To Be A Republican’. As the Kavanaugh hearings spotlight, the Right Wing is built on the unwavering defense of rape culture.

Explain to me how it is that men cannot control the actions of their favorite appendage yet they are permitted to control our government, our laws, our lives, our money, our reproductive rights and pretty much everything else in life.

‘Gothic Romance is, itself, a genre, as separate from horror. You know, I think horror is something that has evolved more recently as something that is explicitly about terrifying you, about giving you nightmares, about creating the scariest environment possible. And Gothic romance is more… when it came around in literature, it was the first time that anyone had explained the supernatural in terms of unprocessed emotional trauma. The idea that ghosts were emotions locked in time, that they were warnings about the past or future, and it’s always bound up with these two forces of love and death. And usually there is a young, innocent heroine who is drawn to a tall, dark stranger with a crumbling mansion and impelled into a very dangerous situation by her sexuality… At the time it was a very rebellious genre, people didn’t talk about sex and death in the same context. And so, that’s where Crimson Peak sits: it is squarely a love story, with ghosts in it.’

Marvel: Kills Loki horribly, fucks up IW, is generally a hot mess.

Me, on my way to fanfic land:

Marvel: Okay, but how about a Loki TV show starring Tom Hiddleston?

Me:

Marvel at all of us:

I’m extremely skeptical about the motivations here; it feels very cynical – like the outcry about Loki’s death in IW alerted Marvel to how invested his fanbase was, and they decided they’d capitalize on that to convince people to buy their new streaming service. If they already decided to do this before IW came out and they saw the reaction (which they might have; I don’t know how long it takes to negotiate something like this) I would be somewhat less skeptical.

I’m still not buying anything from Marvel until I find out what they’re doing with Loki in Avengers 4. If I’m not impressed, then I’m pirating the Loki TV series rather than buying Disney’s streaming service.
