From a philosopher’s blog essay about #MeToo (which I’m considering for inclusion on my course syllabus):

The prospect of a glorious future where, on pain of social death, we have to make our cultural enthusiasms match up with our morals (by which I mean, what Twitter tells us to feel) fills me with horror. Next thing you know, we’ll all be reading Rupi Kaur poems to each other and listening to Joanna Newsom whilst eating vegan food and knitting. I dunno about you, but that’s my idea of Guantanamo, right there. (For that reason, I completely relish this interview with radical feminist Julie Bindel about her love of Snoop Dogg).

Replace “what Twitter tells us to feel” with “what Tumblr tells us to feel” and you’ve got how I’ve been feeling lately (well, except that I kind of like Joanna Newsom).

I finally started watching season 7 of “Buffy” because I finished season 3 of “Angel” and let me just say I am really glad the Gentlemen aren’t in the credits anymore so I won’t freak out at the beginning of every episode.

Omg why did no one tell James Marsters that in a southeast English dialect “can’t” has a long ‘ah,’ not a short ‘a’? They had an actual Englishman in the cast.

There’s a character named Cassie who predicts her own death and no one believes her. Clever.

“You post Doogie Howser fanfiction. Normal, right?”

I recognized two of the actresses who played cheerleaders. One of them plays Clementine on “Westworld” and the other was Sheldon’s fan club on “The Big Bang Theory.”

I was enjoying how Xander and Willow both accidentally drooled over Dawn.

Their 2002-3 clothes are reminding me so hard of what I wore in high school. And in some cases well into college.

many people have been saying since the beginning he is going to come after citizens. First he came for undocumented, then for green card holders, and now for actual citizens. This doesn’t end with just that.

This – as well as the investigation of naturalized citizens to find inconsistencies in their paperwork, resulting in the revocation of citizenship – is fascism. The Nazis revoked the citizenship of Jews whose families had been in Germany for generations, saying that Jews could never be real Germans. The same logic says that immigrants can’t be real Americans, regardless of how long they’ve been here and the hoops they’ve jumped through to earn citizenship, and Hispanic people can’t be real Americans even if they were born here. Falsified birth certificates are just a pretext.
