This is what we mean when we say that rich people have the ability to immediately and directly help people’s lives but most of them actively choose not to

This is a failure of public institutions. There should be a robust enough system of public transportation that people aren’t completely reliant on private vehicles. No one’s employment should be so precarious that they’d rather walk 14+ miles than call and say they have to miss work because of a car breakdown. Rich people are refusing to help not by failing to give all their employees new cars, but by voting to gut the social safety net so they don’t have to pay taxes. We’re heading back toward a quasi-feudal system where the poor have to rely on the capricious largesse of the rich in order to have a barely decent life.
