I feel like call out culture regarding historical/dead figures sometimes misses the point. Yes, folks can and should share info about how say Crowley, Gandhi, Churchill et al believed and enacted some grim terrible things. Yet, at the same time, without excusing them, we should realize how they were embedded in and reacted to socio-historical and cultural norms.
If we’re only reacting to specific figures, we’re missing the point. If we’re seeing them as individualized monsters, we miss the point of how they came to be this way.. This means we can miss the signs when they begin to recur.
Which kinda is how we got here in the first place, no?
