I have so many feelings about true form Aziraphale, like, if he was a cherubim, chances are in his angelic form he has 4 faces, 4 wings, 4 hands, eyes fucking everywhere, and he’s massive. Cherubs, principalities, biblically speaking they aren’t just ranks, they literally are types of angel and almost a subset in and of themselves, determining what they look like. Generally, the higher the sphere (1st sphere especially, which involves Cherubs), the less human like.
So what I like to personally headcanon is that Aziraphale, while maintaining the form and physiology of a full blown cherub, takes over and performs the same basic duties as a principality. The connotations of this are hilarious to me, because principalities really do basically look like humans. Imagine this area to report into, blatantly made and structured for 3rd sphere angels, and this fucking 4 winged behemoth with a bull face, an eagle face, a lion face, and a man face comes barging in every century or so. “Oh, excuse me, pardon me, er, I’ll just have a seat then.” All the other angels are exchanging looks in between their faceful of eye covered feathers. It’s all around awkward for everyone, after the 5th century of this BS they just tell him to report in from Earth.
But also, Crowley originally being a 3rd sphere angel (personally I think of him originally being a principality, because parallels), him and Aziraphale just hanging out in their true forms. And Aziraphale being a goddamn Goliath compared to Crowley. Crowley straight up perching on the lion face’s nose, or resting on the feathers on the eagle face’s forehead, because they’re just that different in size. Cherubs are described, in some renditions, as not just guarding the way to Eden, but guarding the throne of god. I’d imagine they aren’t exactly skimping in the warrior look.
Imagine Aziraphale getting kind of indignant over later renditions of cherubs. That wasn’t what he looked like, who ever heard of a baby guarding the garden? Who’s ever head of a baby wielding a flaming sword? Doesn’t stop Crowley from teasing him mercilessly for the next century and a half.
Imagine, the Eden scene, but with Aziraphale in a true cherub form. They never say he’s not massive, or that he doesn’t have four wings, massive amounts of eyes, four arms and four faces. Crowley snake casually speaking to him in that form. Eldritch Abomination Angel for Aziraphale’s form please.
