I’m probably just being pedantic (as usual), and I don’t know squat about the actual content of IW, but I’d like to insist on the difference between the role of the *screenwriters*, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who wrote the story and dialogue, and that of the *directors*, Joe and Anthony Russo, who figured out things like staging, framing, and precise expression. Markus and McFeely are primarily to blame/credit for the actual sequence of events, including significant character deaths.
Yep.
I think it’s more complicated than that, unfortunately. There is a lot of back and forth in movie making with writers, directors and the big wild card, producers. That’s not even counting original rights holders and big name stars who can hold out for script concessions. There’s script doctors and film editors who can do everything from smoothing down the final product to changing a crucial plot point. Disney in particular has been known to order huge changes based on test audiences (Frozen) or kick a director and do a major script change halfway through (Lion King). The exact balance of power and input is different in every film. That one of the reasons I don’t take any “interview canon” seriously. No one can stand up and say what’s “really true” with more authority than what made it to the screen.
Yes, I’m sure. I was responding to the very common tendency to attribute everything to the Russos.
