Money can buy the chemical dopamine, therefore it can buy happiness
So, where exactly do you buy dopamine?
Asking for a friend.
unfortunately, most of them are both illegal and highly addictive, so be careful out there
The original post relies on the highly contentious assumption that “happiness” is synonymous with “experienced pleasure.” Money cannot buy happiness according to the richer understanding encapsulated in the word eudaimonia, generally understood to be the aim of ancient Greek ethics, which is sometimes translated as “happiness” but sometimes as “flourishing” or, more literally, “wellness of soul.” Aristotle did think that a certain level of material well-being was necessary, though certainly not sufficient, for eudaimonia, but the Stoics considered happiness to consist entirely in virtue, because it seemed irrational to them that it should be contingent on something as subject to chance as material wealth.
…and now I feel like Chidi on “The Good Place” making a long, pedantic response to an offhand joke.
