Some people are super introverted, and absolutely will not ask for help unless they can do it anonymously or as close to it as possible. And we all know how much easier it is to talk with people when we are writing/typing instead of actually speaking. 

It’s not just an introvert thing; it’s also a thing for people with auditory processing problems. I find it difficult to understand people on the phone because unlike when talking face to face, I can’t use lip movements as a cue.
