i am guilty of tagging that i think? but it’s out of ignorance. I thought it was a fandom convention, to specify whether they’re actually blood or adopted brothers.
i think i don’t have to hold up my incest-kink creds here, do I? (i don’t even think there is a moral problem here between people who consent. NO, not even in reality. I know reality is a different can of worms, that incest IRL is very often linked to abuse and mental mindfuck of the worst kind, and I wouldn’t go around advocating for it, bc even in reasonably balanced relationships, power imbalances and emotional mess ups are all too likely, but I know there are incestuous couples in this world who are healthy and balanced and wholesome, and I am all for leaving those alone).
(and I’m also for quit using INCEST as the worst possible slur in the universe with no nuance at all, next to paedophilia and child abuse, bc incest does not necessarily involve abuse, not between consenting adults, and there can be no consent in CA. SO. Yeah. Anyway, I think I made my points extensively in the Dog, enough rambling.)
I was also tagging my fics with that for a while, also because I thought it was a fandom convention. Eventually I deleted those tags when I figured out that it was an attempt to distance oneself from the incestuousness, but I think you (@illwynd) started reading my stuff before I did. So… it might be worth it to give new writers the benefit of the doubt.
I do give the benefit of the doubt, I just hate seeing that tag become an actual trend in the fandom, so I said something about it.
OK. It felt like a call-out post for anyone who had ever used the tag, regardless of their intent.
So, PSA for newcomers to the Thorki fandom: do not use the “Pseudo-Incest” tag on AO3 (or Tumblr, I guess) if you are not ashamed of the incestuousness of the ship. Adoptive brothers are still brothers; there is nothing pseudo about the incest (except in AUs where they just grew up as close family friends or something). If you are ashamed of/attempting to deny the incestuousness of the ship… why are you in this ship?
