In lieu of the new tumblr settings, can I make yet another plea with those of you who read fics and consume art on tumblr to please reblog them?
Fics and art will die on a creator’s dash if they aren’t reblogged. It’s never been more true than now.
If you want to keep receiving content from creators, reblog the the content. If it’s something you enjoyed? Reblog it. It’s not hard. I am going to make a point to reblog everything I read from now on. (With the proper tags of course), as well as all the art that I see on my dash.
I cannot make it simpler. Posts WILL die unless they’re reblogged. No one will see your ‘like’. Your like is a bookmark for YOU to find it later. Your reblog means the world to a creator because it means you are willing to go the little extra distance and recommend this to your followers.
Don’t let creations die on the dash of those who created them.
Reblog to save a creation.
Reblog to keep a creator creating.
Reblog, please.
Ironically, Tumblr ate my last attempt at this post, so I’ll keep it sweet:
1. It makes content creators’ day when you interact with us, especially reblog.
2. Comments and tag blathering are really, really special to me, and I look at allllll my reblogs just in case someone said something interesting in the tags.
3. It works. @dresupi reblogged something of mine and I immediately got more notes.
This. I am less and less motivated to post anything on here lately because there are so little responses I’m thinking people are sick and tired of my stuff. (maybe they are, idk…)
I would like to know what is the reason why so many people will like but not reblog. Are they just shy? Do they not understand that it is barely a tiny blip?
The only things I ever like without also reblogging are personal thoughts from people I follow that I don’t feel close or intimate enough to actively reblog or comment on; but I want the OP to see that I saw it and that I acknowledge them. It’s like a little friendly wink in a crowd; a discreet, personal nod.
Creators need propagation (and, yes, attention; everyone need to stop acting like this is such an evil thing in social creatures) to survive. The whole point of creating art of any kind is communicating something. Communication requires an audience. If you love it help it grow and reblog it.
I’m really concerned that this “Best stuff first” setting will screw over obscure creators who don’t get a lot of reblogs… because that means me. I’ve been in the fandom for 2 years, which feels like a long time but isn’t comparatively, and I’m told by people who have been around longer that they built up a readership (or viewership, for artists) with time, so just be patient and people will start noticing. But that can only happen if the process of gradually picking up readers/viewers is allowed to start. If Tumblr won’t let people see your shit in the first place because you don’t have a large following, then anyone who came in after or only shortly before the shift will just be permanently shut out.
[[Minor note: in the OP it should be “in view of” or “in light of,” not “in lieu of”… that’s a common confusion. “In lieu of” means “in place of” or “instead of.”]]
